Default IE 9 Beta Announced

Microsoft announced today that it would be releasing the beta version of Internet Explorer 9 in September.

The company offered up little else in the way of specifics, including not announcing if the beat would be available to everyone.

There was no definite release date revealed either, though the final version of the browser is not expected until sometime in 2011. Microsoft took a full year to release IE 8 after its beta.

Unlike Google’s Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox, which are updated frequently, Microsoft is notorious for taking its time with its browsers.

Worth noting with the new browser – it won’t work with Widows XP. Despite its advanced age, XP remains Microsoft’s most popular and widely used OS.
The lack of IE 9 compatibility and the recent end of support for Windows XP SP2, are obvious signs of Microsoft urging users towards Windows 7.

Whether that urging works or not, especially for business customers, remains to be seen.
